Harvey County Food & Farm Council

We aim to improve access to local, healthy food.

This short statement summarizes key elements of Resolution 2015-04, in which the County Commission established HCFFC and its purpose. Below is a breakdown of our purpose statement, with excepts from the commission’s resolution:

  1. Access to “affordable, nutritious and safe food for all residents.” The resolution specifically notes that “food security is a necessity of life, recognized as a condition in which all community residentts must be able to obtain safe, culturally acceptable, nutritionally adequate diet..”
  2. Local food serves to “enhance economic development, promote agri-toiurism and strenthen local food systems in Harvey County.” This effort strives to “bring stakeholders together” and is a “means for small, agriculture-related businesss development.” It furthers efforts to “coordinate and collaborate with existing initiatives within Harvey County and other regional and state food and farm organizations.
  3. Healthy food is central to the commission’s charge to enhance the “distribution of affordable, nutritious and safe food for all residents” and to “effect improvement in the health and well-being of all Harvey County residents.”
